Our Wedding Reception Playlist

I fondly look back on our wedding day with bliss and giddiness, and I would relive it over and over again. Throughout my engagement, I was worried sick about having to invite so many people (family obligations) and being the center of attention. During the day though, I was just surrounded by SO much love and support from family and friends that I actually wish we invited more people. I just felt so much joy when my cousins from Chicago raved about how much fun they had! My uncle who came all the way from the Philippines told me he was in tears with how much love that surrounded Cecilio and I. One of my dad's best friends, John (whose wedding was 20 years ago and my dad was the best man for) told my sister that he could feel my dad's presence. My best friend said this was the most fun wedding she has ever been to.

I owe all of this to our DJ/MC, Mike from Creative Memories Entertainment. I found him on the preferred vendors for our reception venue. You could use florists, bakers, photographers, videographers, etc. that weren't on the preferred vendors list (I only used the DJ and cake baker from the list), but the DJs had to be the ones chosen for the list. So I filled out the form from his website, and within minutes he calls me to inquire about meeting. We exchange emails, and Cecilio and I had a 2 hour consultation with him. Immediately, Mike was the best part about wedding planning and he acted as another coordinator. He also was our MC and provided our lighting and photobooth. He made sure things went smoothly for us, and reached out to our other vendors. He made sure everyone had a fun time (even by forgoing some of the songs we wanted during dancing for the retro songs our older guests wanted, especially when my aunt was complaining that he wasn't playing Earth, Wind and Fire). When we booked him as our DJ, he gave us a password to log in to and input the songs we wanted for our into, cake cutting, first dance, etc. and he also wanted to get to know a little bit about our gets. He asked about which guests came from out of town, what traditions we wanted to uphold, who was in our wedding party, etc.

So I want to share with you guys a playlist from our wedding reception via Spotify, from our entrance all the way to the last dance :) enjoy!

Bride & Groom Entrance
"Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet

Dinner Music
Most of the songs were instrumental because I requested for mostly jazz songs for my mom (who is a huge jazz fan), but Mike took some of the songs from our love list and transferred them over to play during dinnertime.

"Closer To Love" by Mat Kearney
"True Love Waits" by Radiohead
"Starboy" by the Weeknd

Cake Cutting
"Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen

First Dance
"Inevitable" by Anberlin

Bouquet Toss
"Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" by Beyoncé

Garter Toss
"Whatta Man" by Salt-N-Pepa

"Longest Married" Dance
We wanted to honor married couples by Mike gathering them all together, and announcing the shortest married on the dance floor first all the way to the longest married. My aunt and uncle, Tita Gigi and Tito Arthur, were the longest married at 39 years, followed by my Tito Jamno and Tita Lillian being married at 37 years. We chose "Let's Stay Together" because it's Cecilio's parents' song, who have been married for 29 years.

"Let's Stay Together" by Al Green

Dance Music
Mike played a lot more songs, including Cha-Cha slide and the Electric slide, but here are the specific ones I remember:

"Le Disko" by Shiny Toy Guns
"Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus
"Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson
"Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars
"Yeah!" by Usher
"El Sonidito" by Hechizeros Band
"Can't Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake
"Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey

Last Dance
Mike gathered all of guests to huddle in a circle surrounding us for the last dance before the night wrapped up, which was...

"Lights" by Journey
