i love macs i love the simplicity but theres nothing out there
that will topple microsoft office period.
I actually don't think this is true anymore. It was a year or two ago, but Apple is making such unbelievable headway in market share, I truly believe if they were to release a much-improved Pages/Keynote and bundle it with a true spreadsheet App, they would have a very large majority of Apple users signing up willingly.
Office for Mac is a horrendous, unstable, and ridiculously poor application. Word is awful, Excel can't run half the Macros that are made in the PC version, and Entourage is laughably easily to corrupt. I think with some clever engineering and a little good faith (ie. bundling the software with OS X or at least keeping the price very low) Apple could really put a dent into Office for Mac use very quickly.

I'll be down until Time Warner comes and installs road runner in my house. I hope they come and install quick! Sucks as my 2gb data plan eats up quickly :(
Should have my rig up to full power again. :D

no one seems to be pointing out that they got rid of educational pricing for iPods... that's a bummer.

Anyone else know why the scroll bar in the diagram is on the left? Should'nt it be on the right hand side of the screen?
It's OS 7.6.1 :)

it's not that ugly, and the screen is truly something to behold.

If it opens in Parallels, then install the free and open-source PDFCreator tool over there, and capture what you want by printing to the virtual printer the PDFCreator tool installs. You can then do whatever you wish with the PDF files thus generated.

hahaha. freaking awesome
KDE's Digikam already supports GPS-mapping
well i guess no one else should do it, improve on it, etc, then eh? i'm still pissed at apple for wasting its time on final cut pro when adobe premiere already existed for the same market

Well, then here... let me respond.
As I posted in another thread, the government by its very design distributes wealth. The question isn't whether it will happen... it will and does. The question is what should the government do when the distribution of wealth tilts to much to the wealthy. It destabilizes the country when too much wealth is concentrated into the hands of too few and it's in the nation's best interest to see that kind of imbalance doesn't become too extreme.
Tunisia?

w3schools (http://www.w3schools.com/aspnet/default.asp) is your friend;)
IMHO the learning curve is more than significant, but if you're up to date with your OOP then you'll be alright. In fact, if you are decent with good ol' programming, then ASP .NET will eventually make your life easier.
I started out with .NET, so I wouldn't know what it's like to come from LAMP, but there are a lot of people here at work that started out with regular ASP. Most of them make the mistake of scripting too much like they used to on regular ASP. In ASP .NET you want to keep the scripting to the minimum as most of the code will be separated from the HTML. Focus on this code separation paradigm when learning ASP .NET.
Your knowledge of VB6 will definately be of use as VB .NET is very similar, but if you have the time/will to do so, I recommend that you learn C# (although theoretically both languages yield the same results).
If you know oracle I don't think you'll have much trouble with sql server. You could start out with MS's data application block (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnpag2/html/daab.asp), although you shouldn't use them for anything other than learning purposes.
A copy of Visual Studio .NET would be very helpful(although I hear it isn't cheap:( ).

Based on the above drawings, this would be a disaster.
The interface is now clunky, crowded and unintuitive.
Biggest problem- take a look-it will require two hands to operate, thereby negating what every one else has been trying to imitate-the ease of use of the iPod scroll wheel.
Oh please... This is a stupid drawing, the iPod is not gonna look like this. The Apple engineers know what they are doing.

I applaud Johansen :)
Me too. I hope he does the same to Microsoft's DRM now. Force them, Apple and all the other providers to come up with and support a common DRM standard that no single company owns.
No vendor lock in and no more Mac marginalisation. Great!! :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)
It depends on how you're running the vm, full screen, coherence, etc. From full screen you hit control+option and click on the devices menu at the top then scroll down to CD/DVD1, that'll open a menu to the side and click on default CD/DVD. That will connect the disc drive to the vm, just remember to disconnect it when you're done.
Ahh great that worked thanks :D

Just wondering if anyone can help with a recommendation for a scanner. I want to scan in my old lecture notes I have from university. They've been gathering dust under my bed and generally taking up space for years. It would be handy if I could transfer these notes to my Mac.
I'm looking for a scanner that comes in at under 200 (willing to go slightly higher if needed, although lower would be preferred). I'm unlikely to ever scan in any photos, umm ever! So my need is for this scanner to be always used to scan in documents that are txt based.
Thanks for reading and hope someone can help
Jason
P.s I have a 12 Rev A Al book, so no usb2. But I should be upgrading in the near future. Not sure if this is relevant

Yeah, Steve did only say 802.11 which strikes me as odd, but why would they use n in the set top box, when all of the current Macs have g? I don't see Apple telling everyone who just bought a new Mac "too bad"
Unless recent Macs have 802.11n which just needs a firmware update to unlock it.

I can't see this new iPod mockup as replacing the original iPod, but just falling into a niche market (as many here have suggested), with the primary focus being video. I kind of wonder if Apple will try and expand its market by providing 'content specific' iPods, with different designs for a user preference in games, photos, ebooks (a bit of a stretch, I know :) ). I mean, at this point, there's only so much you can do to reinvent the wheel, and while every iPod can still play music, different design options appeal to different buyers.

Try the tips here: http://conzone.com/blog/2009/12/mating-a-dell-1110-laser-printer-and-mac-osx/
Never used that printer, so I can't vouch for the solution there, but it looks like good suggestions.
jW
I used that solution with SPliX, and I actually gained features.
Thanks guys, I've had this problem since Preview 1, and it for pretty annoying to have to keep booting into SL every time I wanted to print!
Thanks,
