London Birthday Haul

If you couldn't guess from the amount I've already spoken about it, as part of my Birthday celebrations I went on a day trip to London. When I was younger and didn't have as many things to do in my life, I used to go to London all the time with my family so I know London pretty well. I certainly know it well enough to be able to make a trip to London by myself.

I didn't just go to London to go shopping but that was the majority of what I ended up doing. I mainly went to London to go to the V&A for the Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition and I had a piercing in Astrid & Miyu but whilst I wasn't busy doing something, I was shopping and I thought I would share with you the pieces I picked up whilst in London as I was definitely in full treat mode.

To be honest my entire Birthday week was a treat week so I have also included some of the items I purchased in the couple of days leading up to my trip to London as one of the pieces I actually used when I went to London. I am now going to be on a spending ban for the rest of my life after this week so I hope you enjoy this haul because it is going to be my last one. I Lie, there is a T K Maxx haul coming very soon!

All Saints

On my Birthday, my mother and I went into town and had a mother/daughter bonding day. I actually went into All Saints with the intention of looking for a white top to go with my dusty pink pleated skirt from ASOS. I wanted to wear my pleated skirt for my family brunch on the Saturday but I need a plain white top to go with it and All Saints is always a good store for staples. As soon as we walked in, my mother said that All Saints basically sums up my style and I think it does. There are no bright colours and I just love the modern cuts to classic clothes.

I didn't expect to go in and find anything but as soon as I walked into the store I saw a pattern that I completely fell in love with, the Splash Print. The first piece I noticed was the Frida Splash Skirt which looked like a Summer staple for me and then a couple of rows along I saw the Krystal Splash Dress and immediately added it to my pile of clothes to try.

I have to try on clothes in All Saints because they are made for leggy models not 5 foot nothing petite ladies so sometimes I can struggle with sizing. However both the Frida Skirt and the Krystal Dress fit beautifully or they would have if they were both in my size. Unfortunately the skirt was a size 6 and I could have done with a 2 or a 4 but the XS in the dress was perfect! I fell in love instantly and decided that I could wear this dress to London the following day and potentially to brunch on the Saturday, if I couldn't find a white top.

The Krystal Splash Dress is a wrap dress which allows you to pull the waist in so it fits perfectly and shows off your booodddyyy. I like the ruffle bottom and side of the wrap dress as it adds volume and helps to add more shape to my otherwise incredibly slim body. I love the pattern and the shape of this dress and it is slightly reminiscent of my Missguided Dress that I wear all of the time but it is a slightly fancier version.

This was quite expensive but I know I am going to get the wear out of this, purely because I have worn my Missguided dress so much. I did wear this to London the following day and the staff in the Regent Street store asked if I worked for All Saints as I also had my Balfern Leather Jacket on. I mean if they want to me to model some of their clothes, I would be more than happy to oblige! Also I just want to say I had really good service in the Bristol store, the sales assistant was so hopeful but not pushy. I was so impressed by the service that I tweeted about it because I think people are very quick to complain about bad service but never give credit when credit is due.

Primark

Would a shopping trip even be a shopping trip without popping into Primark? I have been trying to buy less fast fashion as I simply do not get the wear out of it. I think it is a bit of a waste when I could be putting the money towards an outfit that I would wear all the time. Plus it is more likely to last longer if I spend more on it. However sometimes it is just nice to go into a Primark and have a look. Much like my All Saints shopping, I actually went into the Primark in Bristol to pick these bits up. I did venture into the Primark on Oxford Street but I have literally never hated a store as much as I hate that Primark! It is far too big and I had to wait an age to get into the changing room and it wasn't even worth it because the two items I tried were no good. I thought Bristol was bad but this experience really opened my eyes and made me appreciate what I have.

The whole reason I popped into Primark was because I had been in earlier that week and I picked up a pair of joggers. I ended up absolutely loving these joggers and I wanted to see if I could get some more. I also wanted to see if they had the new mask that has been added to the Alex Steinherr x Primark Range but it had not made its way to the Bristol store yet. Whilst I was there it would have been rude not to have a look around, especially as I had time to look around.

In the end I picked up a plain black top and a plain white top because I always need basics like this and they seemed to hang quite nicely. They seemed like they would be good tops to tuck in which is a factor I always consider when buying tops. I also figured if I couldn't find a nicer white top to wear with my pleated skirt, I could wear the white one to Brunch on the Saturday.

I don't often buy underwear from Primark as underwear is something I like to spend a little bit more money on. I think wearing nice underwear is the ultimate luxury and it can really change the way you feel about yourself so even if someone else isn't going to see it, I still like to wear nice underwear for myself. However when I saw these knickers in Primark I thought they were quite cute and they were only £4. I look for bigger pants like this to go under skirts in the Summer, just so that when the inevitable Marilyn moment happens at least I am wearing cute undies.

The final item I picked up is easily my favourite and it is a pair of shoes. I love shoes and heels, I would love to be able to wear heels everyday as I do believe they make you walk with more purpose and they complete a look. As part of the sales season after Christmas, I had been eyeing up a pair of Gianvito Rossi mules on Net-a-Porter which were around £280 but in the end I treated myself to a different pair of Gianvito Rossi shoes from Harvey Nichols. Even though I bought a different style, it doesn't stop me from loving the mule style and luckily for me Primark have completely ripped off that style for a fraction of the price. I wasn't sure about how much wear I would get out of the Gianvito Rossi shoes but now it doesn't matter if I don't wear these too much because they were only £12, plus I don't mind if these get trashed on a night out.

I love this style because it incorporates the PVC trend that is really popular in footwear at the moment but also because it looks like a barely there shoe but your foot is secured by the PVC strap over the foot. I have no idea how comfortable these shoes are going to be but I guess I will find out. That concludes my Primark shopping, see I didn't spend too much in Primark and I only picked up a couple of pieces.

Victoria's Secret

Hi, I'm Sophie and I am an underwear buying addict. There is quite a bit of underwear in this haul but as I said, it is something I like to treat myself to. Even though I consider something like Agent Provocateur a treat and Victoria's Secret an everyday sort of brand, the price point is not too different. Victoria's Secret is not massively cheaper, some bras can cost over £50 in Victoria's Secret and you can get Agent Provocateur bras cheaper than that in their sale. Despite this realistically you aren't going to be wearing Agent Provocateur everyday because it is hand wash only so you do have to buy underwear you can wear daily and that is where Victoria's Secret comes in.

I honestly think there is a taste level that is quite often missing from Victoria's Secret, don't get me wrong the majority of my underwear draw comes from Victoria's Secret but there are some hideous designs and some bright colours going on in that store. When I buy underwear I want it to be a plain boring colour. However I have fallen in love with one type of bra from the store, their bralettes. They are honestly the most comfortable bras and I love wearing them on my days off when my boobs do not need to feel like they are being housed in a cage and when I want to look cute. I originally purchased the red one and loved it so much that I went back to buy another one which was when I purchased the pink one.

Looking at them, they don't seem like they would do much for your boobs but the thick band gives you a bit of support and a bit of a boost so if you have no tits like me then they can at least be aided by this bra. These little bras are £20 so they aren't cheap but they are comfy and cute, what more could you want?

V&A

This is the start of my London shopping. I love going to London to do a bit of shopping because there are so many different stores compared to Bristol. You never really think about it until you are there but I am quite limited when it comes to more high end beauty and fashion stores in Bristol. When I go to London, I try to buy things that I can't get in Bristol and I have done a pretty good job of doing that on this trip.

My London adventures started at the V&A for the Dior: Designer of Dreams Exhibition which was the main reason for my trip to the capital. The exhibition was truly incredible and I loved seeing all of the clothes in person. I am yet to publish my blog post on the V&A Exhibition but I have written it and it will be published soon however I did pick up a couple of items from the gift shop.

I've been to a lot of museums and exhibitions throughout my life, my parents used to love taking me to educational things but this was the first one I've ever decided I actually wanted to go to. To remember my visit I wanted to get the book from the exhibition and I thought it would be a good coffee table book if I ever move out. Inside it talks you through the different sections of the exhibition and it shows you some of the dresses and the details close up. I'm not sure it would be as interesting if you didn't go to the exhibition but for me it will serve as a great reminder for such a stunning exhibition.

Whilst I was there I decided to pick up my book for this month. I am still reading The Vanity Fair Diaries by Tina Brown which I spoke about in my February Favourites but I didn't have a book lined up for March so I bought Dior by Dior which is Christian Dior's autobiography. After finding out more about his life throughout the exhibition, I thought it would be an interesting read after visiting the exhibition as I felt it didn't go into a great enough detail about the man himself.

The final item was a little notebook with a Dior illustration on the front. I love notebooks for writing blog posts and I always have a notebook in my bag in case inspiration strikes and I thought this was a cute notebook for my handbag.

Fresh Beauty

As part of my Beauty Wishlist for 2018 I had included Fresh Beauty as I received a sample from the Glamour Beauty Club of the Caramel Lip Balm and loved it so I have been longing to try more from the brand. However there isn't a counter in Bristol and just looking online makes it quite hard to buy skincare. I had been waiting until I could get to a counter to buy some of the products and they had a lovely little counter in Harrods. After going to the V&A, I went to Knightsbridge so of course I had to stop in Harrods.

The Fresh Beauty counter was actually quite busy so I was left to browse on my own which was quite good. The first product I zoned in on was the Rose Facial Toner. I've seen this online quite a lot and I just love that it has the rose petals in it and I am seriously hoping that the results are as good as the product looks. I also picked up a mini tube of the Soy Face Cleanser, once again quite a hyped product and I love a cleanser so I can't wait to test this one as well. I will probably try them both at the same time as they are ideal to be used in conjunction. I also purchased the Caramel lip balm as I loved the sample so much and when it was sat there right in front of me, it seemed rude not to pick one up. Plus my lips have been so dry recently and nothing seems to be cutting it so I'm hoping this balm is going to help sort out my lips.

Both the cleanser and the toner are mini products as I just wanted to try them but I feel like they will provide a good introduction to Fresh Beauty skincare. When I was checking out, I was given a sample size of the Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask. I love a clay mask so I have no doubt this will be used soon. I can't wait to test out these products and I'm sure I will eventually write a blog post about the products once I've used them all for a while.

Agent Provocateur

I'm not sure if you have been to Harrods but it is quite an intimidating store but I decided to be brave and venture to womens wear, even though I couldn't afford the majority of the items they sell. I got completely lost and found myself in the designer section which is my dream area. After looking at all of the gorgeous pieces I could never afford, I ended up in the lingerie section. I just thought I would have a quick look around and I stumbled across the Agent Provocateur counter. Unfortunately AP is now available in Bristol?!  However it is the crappiest little section in the local House of Fraser which is unmanned and they only have a couple of designs. If you couldn't tell I am not a fan of it being in House of Fraser, I simply think it devalues the brand and I will tell you why.

I didn't go to AP intending to buy anything, I just wanted to see what was about but the sales assistant was so lovely and I was looking for a real treat item for my Birthday and what is better than a bit of luxury underwear? Without the sales assistant giving incredible service, I probably wouldn't have purchased which is why I think it won't work in House of Fraser. Without someone there to represent the brand, people won't understand why it is so expensive and you simply do not get the experience of shopping with a luxury brand, therefore devaluing it.

I had my V&A bag and the sales assistant (Kim) asked about the exhibition and generally asked me about my day. I love talking about myself so this was a good way of getting my attention. She then showed me some of the different new styles and suggested ways that they can be worn. When I said something about my underwear preferences she took note and found styles that she thought I would like. After looking at a few styles, I ended up trying on 4 different bras. 2 different colours of the Lorna Style, the Joan Set and one of the new Zadi Bras. Whilst I tried them, she gave me a glass of bubbles (it was my Birthday) and helped me with the fit and the look of the styles. She was very attentive and really helped me to choose my underwear.

In the end I went with the Navy Lorna Set. Lorna is a classic style for AP and they do it in a lot of colours. Usually they have a different coloured trim which I am not a massive fan of but on the Navy version the trim is all Navy which matches the bra which personally I prefer. I also love Navy in general as it typically suits my skin tone. I bought a full set: the bra, thong and suspenders which was a real treat but I am so happy with it and the whole shopping experience. I have worn it since I bought it and I felt so glamorous and elegant. Even though no one else knew I had it on, I think that is part of the magic, knowing that underneath your mundane clothes you are actually looking fine as hell. It is most definitely a confidence boost.

Astrid & Miyu

After spending an unholy amount in Agent Provocateur, I moved on from Knightsbridge and went to Regent Street/Oxford Street, the best part of London for shopping. I wanted to make my way to the Astrid & Miyu store to see if I could get a piercing and to pick up some earrings I had been eyeing up.

I will be talking about the process of getting my ear pierced in a dedicated post but that will go live later in the week. Of course I had to pay for the piercing which is why I have mentioned it in this post but I also picked up a pair of earrings whilst I was there. I had been eyeing up a pair of the Rose Gold Huggies for a long time as I follow Astrid & Miyu on Instagram and they always feature them in their posts. I have quite small ears so finding small huggies has been a difficult task. When I saw the Astrid & Miyu Huggies in person, I knew they were going to be a great size.

They are a beautifully delicate, super shiny Rose Gold huggie that just looks great when they are worn in your lobes. My one problem is that they are quite hard to get into your ear. I'm sure it would be fine if you didn't have massive acrylic nails but because I do, they are a struggle to get into my ear as I can't get a good grip on the earring. Despite this I absolutely adore them and even though they weren't particularly cheap, they are a lovely quality. Whilst I was shopping the sales assistant said that they are silver based so if you want you can leave them in. I have been trying to remove mine to prolong their life but it is good to know that if I forget (or get lazy) it isn't the end of the world. I went to the store in St. Christopher's Place which is just off of Oxford Street and if you get the chance I recommending going to have a look because it is a seriously cute store.

Coach

Once I had been to Astrid & Miyu I strolled along Oxford Street, had a look around Selfridges and ideally I was still looking for a white top to go with my pleated skirt. I only had around an hour and a half left in London before I had to get my train back to Bristol. After I finished in Selfridges, I walked back towards Carnaby Street, grabbed a coffee in Carnaby Street and then walked back towards Oxford Circus tube station however on my way, I stopped in Coach.

On Regent Street there is a massive Coach store and I was looking for something quite specific. For Christmas I received a Coach bag from my parents and I absolutely adore it but I wanted to see if I could get a matching purse or a card holder that would match my bag. I had looked at the time when I bought the bag to see if there was a purse to go with it but unfortunately as the bag was a limited edition they either did not make anything to match or I missed the opportunity to purchase it. The bag I have is classed as a Peony Pink bag with gold hardware which it turns out, it is quite hard to find a pink accessory with gold hardware. I do think that silver goes better with pink but I love that my bag is slightly more individual.

I wanted to look for something pink that would go with my bag and when I saw this card holder, I thought it was perfect. I have looked on the Coach website for something similar but I hadn't seen this card holder before. When I saw it in store I thought it was perfect. If you read my 2019 Birthday Wishlist you will know that I have been looking for a new card holder and when I saw this it seemed like it would be a good replacement for my DKNY card holder.

This Coach card holder has a lot of card slots so I could fit 6 cards in it whereas my DKNY one can only hold 4. The leather is much nicer and I prefer that this is a textured leather so if I get any marks on it, which I will, it won't be as obvious as it is on my DKNY one. Unfortunately this does have silver hardware but it isn't a bright silver, it is more of a gunmetal silver which is fine so it can go with the gold hardware on my bag. The reason I immediately took to this card holder is because it reminded me of a Prada one I wanted to buy in the Net-a-Porter sale but I missed out on getting it. The Prada card holder had a couple of different pink tones much like this Coach one and that was why I noticed it in the first place.

This card holder was cheaper than I expected it to be considering it is from Coach so when the sales assistant told me the price, I decided it was going to be my final treat of my shopping trip and it is also my last treat of the year. This was not a cheap shopping trip but it was my Birthday and I had saved a bit of money over the month to be able to treat myself over my Birthday week, now it is back to budgeting for the rest of the year!

Sometimes it is nice just to be able to treat yourself and it felt like there was no better time to treat myself as I have not had the easiest start to the year. My Birthday gave me a much needed pick me up that hopefully will leave me feeling a bit more positive as I move into my 26th year! London is one of my favourite cities and when I get the opportunity I do like to make the most of the brands that are available that I cannot get easily in Bristol.

It has taken me quite a long time to get round to it but there will also be posts on my trip to the V&A for the Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition and I had a piercing in Astrid & Miyu so if you want to find out about these two experiences, keep and eye out for my blog posts about them over the next week.
