Surprise Budget Finds Of The Week! A Must Read For Aussies!!!

After my recent absence from the shops, I thought I'd walk around and see what was new.  Boy, were there some new stuff!  This past week I've discovered some really awesome drug store/pharmacy products/brands that have just reached Australian shores (finally)!  Some of you who follow me on Twitter or Instagram will have found out, but here they are...

For example, the much talked about cruelty-free Real Techniques taklon brushes designed by make-up artist Samantha Chapman (one of the famous Pixiwoo sisters on You Tube) just hit the shelves late last week!  I found these in Priceline - in a not so obvious spot I might add.  I'd recommend asking a SA if you can't find them (they're likely to be sitting on display at the ends of shelves or tables)!

I purchased the Blush Brush (see pink brush in photo), and two of their brush sets: the Core Collection (base and concealer brushes shown with orange handles - AU$44.99) and the Starter Set (eye and detail brushes shown in purple handles - AU$39.99).  The prices are reasonable and as expected for drug-store/pharmacy brushes (even though you can find them cheaper online).  I've tried a few of the brushes already (namely, the Blush Brush - AU$22.99, the Deluxe Crease Brush and the Buffing Brush) and I love them!  Super soft and lush. ^_^  I also love the cases they come in which fold and conveniently turn into a stand.  So clever!
On the weekend, in Tarjay (aka Target), I was completely gobsmacked to find Bobbi Brown lip glosses and lipsticks!  I couldn't believe my eyes!! >_<  I had to pause to make sure I was in fact, in Target.  They were displayed in a big bowl with no more than three different shades of each.  Even more shocking (in a *very* good way) were the prices!  O_O  There were no testers at the time as they'd only had them in stock 2 days before, so I had to google swatches to see what they looked like on my phone!  I took home the Rich Lip Color SPF12 (first ever lipstick I've purchased with sun protection! YAY!  I've been wanting something like this for ages!) in the shades: Rose Blossom (#11) and Heather Pink (#12).  These normally retail in Australia for $44, but I purchased mine for only...wait for it...

...$15 each!!!  Woohoo!!!! ^_^  Oh joy!  (The other shade available was 'Old Hollywood').

I also purchased 2 of the Rich Color Glosses in Tutu (#1) and Pink Sorbet (#9).  Normally these are $42, but I got mine for...

...$25 each!!!  Totes amazing, yes?  (The other shade available was 'Pink Gold').

I have no idea what Bobbi Brown is doing in Tarjay or how long they'll be in there for.  I'm just glad I found them and snatched them up at such bargain prices.  I shall definitely return again to see what other surprises are in store.  Mmmmm....

Guess what else I found in Target?  A bowl of Mac eye shadows!  'What the?!', you say.  Exactly.  They had about four different shades (e.g., 'Submarine' is one I recall).  These were single eye shadows selling for only $19 (normal RRP is $33)!  I didn't pick up any though as the shades didn't appeal to me - there was a bright green, a bright yellow and a burgundy red.  I was slightly tempted to get 'Submarine' as I love blue eye shadow, but restrained myself. :)

Finally, in Target, I discovered No.7 Deeply Moisturising Lipcare for $3.  I've never tried or seen No.7 in person before, and for a mere $3, I thought I'd give it a go!  Who knows, perhaps this is just the start of more things to come in Target?  One can only hope.

** UPDATE (August 10, 2012) **: Target have recently expanded their range of "Mac" products on their shelves and have brought about much more attention from consumers.  Last night I bought a Mac Blush after much hesitation.  However, I have since read a few posts on spotting authenticity of Mac cosmetics, and heard a lot of consumers question their authenticity.  Now, I'm not an expert on Mac or Bobbi Brown products, but I have noticed the differences that other people have highlighted between the products they have purchased from their respective brand counters and stores (such as David Jones or Myer or standalone Mac store or official Mac online store) and the ones purchased elsewhere.  I didn't buy any Mac lipsticks but there was a tester and I did notice the lack of the signature vanilla scent that Mac lipsticks have.  The label on the Mac blush is different, etc.  Target have put up signs saying they are "authentic" on the shelf displays.  I would have thought you wouldn't have to do that if they were - and in the first instance, why would you sell ones that weren't, right?  Also, I have never tried Bobbi Brown lip glosses or lipsticks before, so I didn't know what to expect.  The lipstick I tried seemed OK to me, but someone else has mentioned that there were differences in terms of pigment and texture.  Anyway, my point is, there doesn't seem to be any guarantee of their authenticity, I just assumed they were.  As a consumer, it is my personal choice that I would rather be 100% certain that I'm putting my money on genuine products and they only way I believe, is to buy from the actual Bobbi Brown and Mac counters or their official websites.  So, I will be returning these items to Target.  Again, this is just based on my personal choice as a consumer and for my own satisfaction of being sure where I'm spending my hard-earned money.  If you are considering purchasing these from Target, please have a look for yourself and make your own purchasing decision.  Do not take my word for it!  Like I said, I have no idea for sure whether they are authentic and for some people, it may not even matter.  It does to me and personally, I'd rather be sure.  I love to share any bargains I find with you guys coz who doesn't love a bargain, right? ^_^  So, yes initially, I was excited about this, but just thought I'd let you know just to be wary as I am now. /:-\

Back in Priceline, the much hyped about Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eye Shadows finally found their way onto the shelves. I purchased the shade in Bad to the Bronze (#25).

I also found a cute, vintage nautical themed display of a brand I'd never come across before called 'essence'.  The packaging is cute and their prices are probably the cheapest I've come across as well (most if not all items were under $5 I reckon)!  I wanted to get a gorgeous coral lipstick, but they were sold out. :-(  Will have to try again next time.  However, I did pick up a duo eye shadow in 'Come On Board Captain!' (#3) containing a navy blue and taupe-like shades.  It's a steal at only $4.95!  That would probably make it the cheapest makeup item I've ever owned. O_O  Finally, I purchased the Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect Color + Care nail polish in the shade, 'Air' (06).  I'd seen these at Priceline for some weeks, so they're not that new, but I couldn't resist the pretty, pearly, pastel blue.

Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect Color + Care nail polish applies evenly in 3 coats, but is still a bit transparent as it has that porcelain, sheer finish. Gorgeous shade methinks! :) Apparently, it's meant to be a treatment for your nails too, to keep them healthy.
Well, I hope this was exciting for you Aussie readers!

Thanks for stopping by! ^_^ xo
