Since my love for makeup started, single eyeshadows were my go-to. Palettes were far too complicated for a beginner like me and for my eye shape (hooded, big round eyes) many other peoples go-to looks were just undoable. A single swipe of colour all over the eyelids will forever be my evergreen, so I have looked far and beyond for a perfect single eyeshadow.
Browns and satin/shimmery eyeshadows are my jam. Dabbling lately in high end makeup, I found the YSL single eyeshadows that have somewhat recently launched (in the past year and a half) in two formulas, the satin crush and sequin crush. The YSL Satin Crush Mono eyeshadows are described as 'single pan eyeshadows designed to create a radical nude look'. They promise a 'intense color payoff and no fallout with these creamy, blendable pigments'.
YSL Satin Crush Eyeshadow in 2 Excessive Brown is a shimmery brown based taupe infused with gold and silver sparkles. When you look at the colour itself it looks very taupe, but it definetly has a deep brown base that makes it look more dimensional when you blend it, perfect for a one and done eye look. On the eyes it looks quite neutral, so you can easily pair it with a range of lip colours.

As for the quality of the shadow, the perfect way of describing it would be simply as 'a high end eyeshadow', meaning the pigment is there, but not as much as we are acustomed nowadays with pigment loaded eyeshadows. Applied with a finger or flat dense eye brush it gives good pigment, as well as applied with a damp brush. Soft and elegant would be the best term to explain it, nothing too in your face and over the top. If you are a regular consumer of high end, especially designer makeup you will understand what I am talking about. The blendability is perfectly fine, no skipping what so ever.

For my final thoughts, I will say that if you love luxury makeup, you will like the YSL Satin Crush eyeshadow in Excessive Brown, for its soft and subdued elegant look. However if you are looking for super bold, pigment loaded eyeshadows you are going to have to skip this one. It will give you a chic and subdued look, perfect for everyday, however it does need to be built up.
